THINKING-PUPPY 3 Cs = CALM CONNECTED and COMFORTABLE FROM THE GET-GO!

We were delighted to hear from a client who came to us several years ago with her beautiful Golden Retriever. She got in touch to let us know that she was planning to welcome a puppy into her life, having sadly lost her old girl. She wanted to get everything right from the moment she picked up her sweet little puppy and we were very happy to help them take their first Thinking-Puppy steps together. So: meet Penny!

Starting out with Thinking-Puppy 3 Cs means that little Penny has been able to settle well in her new home. Everything is about laying good foundations, and is based on helping her to be calm, connected and comfortable in every context.

Her mum is doing a wonderful job with her, and they're finding their way through the usual puppy nipping, chewing and zoomies. With some WhatsApp support and a lovely face-to-face session, they're finding that Penny loves her daily calming Sniff Trails, is able to be nice and settled around visitors and there are far fewer moments of Puppy Sharkies!

She's a clever button. Because her mum had been working so hard with her before we had our first session with them, she was very responsive to the training exercises we taught. She quickly learned to be calm if she wanted input, and she was one of the cleverest pups we've worked with in terms of picking up Countdown and Connection Games. She's a little gem!

She was gorgeous when she landed on her paws with her mum, and now she's becoming gorgeous and a little Thinking-Puppy star! We're very grateful to her mum for her lovely words:

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Fern on two occasions now with my goldies.

My first goldie, Eira learnt how to walk loose lead and develop regulation skills through Fern’s connection games. This was a great approach for Eira and she responded really quickly to being calm and connected, building her confidence. After sessions with Fern Eira could walk loose lead, wait patiently, good recall, happy to be with people, showed good manners and blossomed in her character.

My current goldie, Penny, is only 9 weeks old and responding really well to Fern’s thinking games. We use sniff trails and licky mats regularly, wait for calm behaviour and reward this following instructions from class using marker words of ‘yes’ and ‘okay’. We are still working on calming the puppy teething and zoomies in the evening but already I’ve noticed how quickly Penny has responded.

I wouldn’t go to another trainer, Fern has incredible knowledge and insight, understanding dogs and how to build their confidence in a calming and comfortable environment.
